7 Ways Not To Get Software Sales Jobs

Identifying what can lose you a job and opportunity before you actually apply to one is so invaluable, because it really enables you to set yourself up for success.  Without know the pitfalls that you need to avoid, you can’t hope to succeed, because you just won’t know about mistakes before they happen. There’s a lot that can go wrong on a resume, and that can detract away from what a good employee you would be, before you’ve really even applied to the job.  With software sales jobs there are plenty of ways to not get that next job, and if that’s your goal here are some great tips:

1) Apply without having a computer science education.

While marketing and sales are a good focus for this type of career, you’re also going to find that software sales jobs really demand a good understanding of software.  If you don’t know computers you can’t hope to level and make a connection with someone that’s really inquiring about the product.  That’s why most software companies rely upon sales people that can have a sufficient technical knowledge of the product that they are pushing.

2) Don’t keep up on current software certifications.

There are a variety of programs that are essential to the software and sales industries, whether it’s for demonstrating a new product in action, or for staying informed and on top of a new product that your company is producing.  That means you have to change with these systems so that you can ensure you’re going to be able to adapt to the most recent versions of all major software.

3) Don’t develop your people skills.

Throughout software sales jobs, you’re going to have to do two things.  On the one hand, you have to be great with people so that you can ensure you’re able to convince them to buy all sorts of different types of software and programs, and on the other hand you have to be fantastic at cultivating relationships so that you can keep the same customers coming back for more and more.

4) Try not to have any sales experience.

Being a salesperson is all about developing your technique, that unique way in which you approach a customer to get them interested in a product that you’re offering. It’s extremely hard to teach, and all the lessons in the world on how you should sell to someone are really not going to help unless you know the finer points of what makes people buy. Those you have to figure out for yourself, based upon your own personal trial and error to find out what works.  That experience is a necessity when you want to apply to better and more high software sales salary jobs.

5) Don’t network to get the inside track on open positions.

It’s a statistical fact that most of the major jobs corporations have on offer are almost always filled from within, or are filled so quickly there’s no sense in advertising them.  That’s almost always because of inside knowledge, and you have to be a part of the network to qualify.  That means you have to make as many friends in the industry as you can, so that when a major company is hiring, you know about it.

6) Make sure you don’t know your product.

If you want to sell to someone, you have to familiarize yourself with the product that you’re providing.  That means you have to know what it is you want the customer to buy in any software sales careers.  If you don’t know what you’re selling, it’s going to be awfully hard to motivate or inspire, and that’s almost always going to be a problem.  If you can’t answer the most basic questions, you’re not going to promote a lot of confidence in what you’re selling.

7) Never search for jobs online.
