Making Sure You Qualify For Electronic Engineering Jobs

In order to maximize your chances of establishing a career path in electronic engineering jobs, you'll want to ensure that you meet the following four standards.


Applying for jobs for which you just do not qualify is the best way to make sure you never get the opportunity that you seek within that field.  You’re going to find that with something like electronic engineering jobs, this is more true than ever, as there are all sorts of accolades and accomplishments future employers are going to want you to have.  If you don’t meet these standards as a really ideal candidate, you’re going to find that you’re not really going to be able to get the top positions on offer, and it’s going to be extremely hard for you to get any job in the field.

With an engineering career, you’re going to find that your education and certification has to go above and beyond what would be expected of most people.  That means ensuring that you meet the qualifications that are going to be expected of you, by being sure that you’re the standard of employee electronic engineering jobs are going to be searching for.  Here are the most common qualifications and what you need to do to make sure you attain them:

1) Education.

Specifically this refers to your electrical engineering degree, of which you need to have at least a four year bachelor’s degree as your accomplishment.  This is extremely important to ensure that you’re going to be able to succeed, and without such a degree, you’re not even going to be able to get your foot in the door, no matter your skill set.  In order to show that you have the best possible degree, you also want to show that you’ve taken extra math and science classes beyond just what’s required by your major.  Both subjects are extremely important to the field, and the more you learn the better in the end.

2) Computer skills required for the job.

There are two things you’re going to encounter in most electronic engineering jobs, as they all involve computers. You need to have an understanding of Programmable Logic Control, in addition to Computer Aided Drafting.  Without these skills, you’re not going to be able to realistically apply for any job in the field, as the dependence upon computers has just gone through the roof.  Every eclectically engineering company uses them heavily, and you have to show that you can cope.

3) Continue on for your higher education.

While this is more of an optional qualification, it can outline just where you can expect to end up when everything is said and done.  By going beyond just the bachelor’s degree into the masters or even all the way to a doctorate, you’re going to find that you can go higher and higher within the industry.  The guys that are bossing the job, running the engineering conglomerate, or just the ones that get paid the best all have this higher education.  When you want your career to go far, it’s always something to consider.

4) Getting the right certification and licenses.

Finally, for most electronic engineering jobs you have to get licensure of some type or another, to show that you’re ready to work in the field.  That means you have to be licensed as a professional engineer, if you choose to give your services to the public.  By working in any industry, you’re giving your services to the public, which means that you have to be licensed.  That means taking a few exams, and needing to pass them in order to show that you’re ready for the profession. This is legally required in all 50 states, so you’re going to have to take them sooner or later.

The first exam that you’re going to have to take with electrical engineering careers is the Fundamentals of Engineering test.  Designed to do just what it says, this will test your knowledge of the fundamentals.  From there you move on to the Principles and Practices of Engineering exam, that’s specific to electrical work.  Passing both exams is a necessity in order for you to become eligible for engineering work.  That means you have to take them if you want to apply to electronic engineering jobs.  But both are affordable for you to take, and you can take them as many times as you have the need if you don’t pass on your first try.
