Sports marketing jobs sound like loads of fun, but they're very hard work. Are they worth the effort? Let's explore the pros and cons.


Many people see athletes and think of sporting careers as being incredibly rewarding as well as great paying opportunities where you can really go to glory.  But in order for there to be those few elite athletes at the top, there are fleets of other employees that pull the strings much more realistically.  One such job is the sports marketing career.  You’re going to find this to be a great option if you want to stay involved in sports t throughout your life in some way, shape or form.  However, sports marketing jobs require a ton of work as well, so you have to be prepared for everything that comes alongside.

Sure you’ll be working in the sports field, and even using the newest equipment out on the market.  But you’ll also find that salary options can be difficult, and it’s a pretty hard and cutthroat type of industry.  These are the things that you have to be prepared for, especially if you want to ensure that you’re going to be able to succeed in any type of career path.

First up, the positives of pursuing a career in sports marketing jobs:

1) Great opportunity to stay in touch with the latest advancements in athletic technology.

This is a job that’s all about selling new products and innovations to users and athletes in a sport all across the entire world.  That means there’s a ton of opportunity for you to explore these new innovations for yourself, and even try them out sometimes, so that you can see just how the sport is advancing on the whole, and that can be a lot of fun.

2) Getting connected with all sorts of famous athletes and sports teams.

As a seller of products, the higher that you can rise throughout a company means the more clients that you can take on, that are more important to the company.  That means working for a major sporting conglomerate, you can be able to meet with the biggest superstars in the world to try and sell them your products and concepts, so that they believe the brand that you represent is the only choice for them.

3) Fantastic perks.

2) Most of the higher up career choices require a degree.

You’re going to have to go after some sort of sports marketing degree if you really want to be able to succeed, and that usually means getting a bachelor’s but even having to go for a master’s degree.  If you want the big jobs, selling to the biggest sports teams the world over, you have to prove that you have the chops to back it up. That means a pretty serious education to show that you’re ready for the next step.

3) You’re going to be looking at some long hours.

Finally, you are also going to have to face some pretty long hours for the salary that you can pull down.  You’re going to find that you basically have to work until the job is done in some cases, and that can involve long business trips, as well as long meetings to try and push through the products or concepts that you’re trying to sell and succeed with.
